FTA’s LTC Classes
Classes begin promptly at 8:00 a.m. at FTA’s South Broadway Office (map). IMPORTANT – Do not bring weapons to the classroom. Please leave weapons and ammunition locked in your vehicle and out of sight. You may bring a drink and a small snack to the classroom. Complimentary bottled water and coffee will provided.
Texas State LTC Qualification Class Exam: At the end of classroom instruction, the Texas State LTC written exam will be administered and all necessary paperwork is completed.
Breaks: There are 10-minute breaks every 50 minutes.
Lunch: Applicants are allowed 30 minutes for lunch immediately following 12pm class dismissal.
Shooting Qualification – Highway 31 Range (map): Following classroom time and lunch, applicants will meet at the Highway 31 Range for shooting qualifications. All weapons and ammunition will be checked by the instructor before live fire begins. Applicants will fire a total of 50 rounds at the target’s center mass during the course of the qualification test. A score of 70% proficiency is required to pass. The instructor will guide you in shooting from (gun is already in your hands and aimed at the target). No holster shooting/shooting from concealed is required. Guns and ammunition: All handguns must be Texas State-required .32 caliber or larger. Applicants are welcome to qualify with a revolver or semi-automatic handgun. LTC holders may carry either type according to current Texas State Law. 50 rounds of ammunition will be fired during qualification as required by Texas State Law. Please bring your own ammunition, or you can purchase it from FTA.
Attire: Weather-appropriate, comfortable clothes and closed-toe shoes are required due to terrain at the range. Qualifying will proceed in most types of conditions, except when dangerous lightning is near.
